“It’s a statement of confidence,” he says that he gained from listening to all types of music and learning from all types of people in the industry. Having worked with artists like Jim Jones, Yung LA and Too Short among others, Famous has become chameleon in the game. His ability to blend his style with that of others is both necessary and appreciated. His versatility as a musician allows him to translate his swag on a track while also bringing out the best in the artist he is working with. His style is a fusion of his experiences from around the world that borrows from a variety of musical genres. Unlike the majority of artist you hear on the radio today, Jon Famous’ style is far from regional or traditional hip-hop. “I can play ten tracks for you that sound completely different,” he admits, “Then I can play another ten tracks and you’ll say ‘you made that too?’” Famous’ refusal to be identified with a certain region or locked into a particular sound drives him to be more and more creative with each new challenge. Famous does more than think outside the box. In fact, he’s creating new realms of thought and music making that is helping him market his signature sound. In addition to his talent and skill, Famous is probably one of the hardest working individuals I’ve met in a long time. Gaining the industry nickname “24/7”, Famous has put in countless hours not only to introduce the world to his music, but to study and perfect his craft. After deciding at a young age that he would pursue music, Famous spent a great deal of time learning the ends and outs of how albums were put together.
His motivation as an artist extends beyond the desire the achieve fame or credibility in this industry. “It’s about the music. I’m blessed with a gift of music and I’m playing my part and getting it out. But my family can’t eat off fame.” The conviction to provide for his family encourages Famous to be a custom-made business man. He is currently the Co-CEO of Fresh Exec Entertainment, an independent label that Famous helped create.
With his destiny lying in his own hands, Famous is determined to be successful. He is always “finding ways to be innovative and finding ways to make my dream my life.” But, despite all of his hard work, Famous believes that being innovative is easy. “It’s difficult when you try. When you’re just being yourself, there’s no one like you. You have to be original.” As a producer, “sometimes I wake up with an idea because I heard some music in my sleep. Sometimes I’ll just sit at the keyboard and let my fingers just flow.” This is Famous’ creative approach to music. “On the artist side, the urge to write comes to me a lot” and is sparked from conversations and daily interactions. This innate ability to “make something out of nothing” is what qualifies Jon Famous as a certified hustler. Famous is currently working on building his production catalog and putting out the street album Crazy Genius sometime later this year. The album will feature production by himself as well as others like 2 Easy from
