From football star to rap super star, Ace Hood is taking Florida by storm. DJ Khaled put him on after just one sample of his work ethic and little by little he’s showing the Hip Hop world that he’s here to stay. From tracks with superstars like Akon, Trick Daddy and Lil’ Boosie to radio friendly tracks with Trey Songz, Ace is ready to lead a new generation of MCs into the future.
OSHHS: You had high hopes for being football star before you became a rapper, what changed your career path from wanting to be a football star to becoming a rapper?
Ace Hood: I ended up getting hurt playing ball. Music was always a part of my life. It pretty much took over, and became what I wanted to do at the point in time with my knee injury and all that.
OSHHS: How did you get the name Ace hood?
Ace Hood: I had the name Ace when I was younger growing up just cause Ace represents one, and I felt like I’m a man of myself. I’m an army in it self. I’m a man that represents one. I felt like it was a lot to take for one man.
OSHHS: You have a sick flow, is it your own unique flow or was there someone in the game that inspired you to flow that way?
Ace Hood: Nah, it’s all original. It’s just me. Of course I had inspirations growing up. I had the Jeezey’s and the Wayne’s. People like that and the Ross’ and people like that. I just wanted to come in differently.
OSHHS: Growing up, was there anyone in particular that you looked up to rap wise?
Ace Hood: Nah, not really. To be honest I didn’t. I pretty much just knew what I wanted to do. I knew where I wanted to be, so I just went after my goal. I didn’t have anyone who I actually looked up to as far as like rapping or nothing like that. Just a couple of inspirations, but not anyone I looked up to.
OSHHS: Where in Broward County are you from?
Ace Hood: Deerfield
OSHHS: Are you currently working on anything as of now?
Ace Hood: Yeah, actually I’m working on my mix tape, Ruthless the Preview and my second album, Ruthless. It’s due to drop like in the middle of the year. I’m due to drop a single real soon, so you can definitely stay tuned for that.
OSHHS: You had a pretty interesting situation, the way you were discovered and what not. Tell us a little about how that happened.
Ace Hood: That whole situation happened, of course me meeting up with Khaled and what not. I had the C.D. M.O.E Money Over Everything, which I was pushing locally. I pretty much took it to Khaled, Khaled seen my swagger and he loved what I was doing. He heard my hunger through my music and actually called my manager that same night, when I went back to meet him he wanted me to rap on the I’m so Hood instrumentaland the rest is history.
OSHHS: Do you have thing that you want to plug before I end the interview?
Ace Hood: Next month I go on the Recession Tour with Young Jeezey. So I’ll be coming to a city new you. Hit me up on MySpace at MySpace.com/Acehood
